Data Protection Statement

Last updated: March 17, 2025

Who I Am

I'm Joy Infant James, the owner and operator of this blog. I'm based in the European Union and comply with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). As the data controller, I determine how and why your personal data is processed.

Legal Basis for Processing

I process your data based on the following legal grounds:

  • Consent: When you subscribe to my newsletter or leave comments
  • Legitimate Interest: To analyze site usage and improve the user experience
  • Legal Obligation: To comply with laws that apply to my operations

Data Retention

I keep your data only as long as necessary:

  • Newsletter subscriptions: Until you unsubscribe
  • Comments: As long as the content is published
  • Analytics data: 26 months

International Data Transfers

My blog is hosted on servers in the EU. However, some service providers (like Google Analytics) may transfer data outside the EU. When this happens, I ensure these providers offer adequate data protection through standard contractual clauses or other approved mechanisms.

Automated Decision Making

I don't use your personal data for automated decision-making or profiling that would significantly affect you.

Children's Privacy

My blog isn't directed at children under 16. I don't knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe I have inadvertently collected data from a child, please contact me to have it removed.

Your Data Protection Rights

Under the GDPR, you have these rights:

  • Information: To know how I process your data (which this statement provides)
  • Access: To see what data I have about you
  • Rectification: To correct inaccurate data
  • Erasure: To have your data deleted in certain circumstances
  • Restriction: To limit how I use your data
  • Data portability: To receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format
  • Objection: To stop processing based on legitimate interests
  • Withdraw consent: To take back consent you've given

Data Protection Authority

If you're unhappy with how I've handled your data, you have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. I'd appreciate the chance to address your concerns directly first, though.

Data Protection Officer

I haven't appointed a formal Data Protection Officer, but you can direct any data protection queries to me at joy@joyinfant.com.

Changes to This Statement

I'll update this statement as needed to reflect changes in how I process data or to comply with new legal requirements. I'll notify you of significant changes through my blog or by email if I have your contact information.
